As of August 31, 2021, the Indian shipping industry had a fleet of 1,488 vessels weighing in at 12.97 million gross tonnage (GT) and 19.45 million deadweight tonnage (DWT). Of the total vessels, 1,021 were coastal vessels weighing 1.55 million GT (1.71 million DWT), and 467 were overseas vessels weighing 11.43 million GT (17.75 million DWT).
