The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to monetise 1,360 km, or around 80 per cent, of its 1,692 km highway asset pipeline for 2026-27 through Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs). The pipeline comprises 17 operational highway stretches, of which 910 km across 10 stretches have been offered to Raajmarg Infra Investment Trust (RIIT), while 450 km have been allocated to National Highways Infra Trust (NHIT).
NHAI aims to raise Rs 300 billion through asset monetisation in 2026-27, with proceeds from InvIT transactions used for debt repayment. Its outstanding debt has declined from Rs 3.42 trillion at the end of 2022-23 to below Rs 2 trillion. The authority’s three-year strategy supports a five-year road-sector monetisation target of Rs 4.42 trillion under the National Monetisation Pipeline, which has an overall target of Rs 16.32 trillion by 2029-30.
