Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) plans to invest around Rs 270 billion to establish a greenfield shipbuilding cluster at Dighi in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. The project, expected to generate around 90,000 jobs, will target an annual shipbuilding capacity of at least 2 million gross tonnes and enable construction of large commercial vessels.
MDL has recently signed a memorandum of undersatnding with National Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Park Maharashtra Limited (NSHIPML) for the project. The cluster is being jointly developed by the Maharashtra Maritime Board and Mumbai Port Authority through NSHIPML.
