Chennai Port Authority has launched the Chennai Port Container Rail Promotion Scheme (CPCRPS) to strengthen rail-based container movement and expand hinterland connectivity. The scheme aims to encourage container train operators and shipping lines to launch new container rail services, particularly on new and under-served hinterland corridors.
Eligible rail services will receive an 80 per cent concession on port railway charges. Shipping lines routing containerised cargo by rail will also be eligible for an additional variable royalty charge concession of up to 10 per cent.
