IR approves installation of Kavach on Ambala Cantonment-Ludhiana, Kalka-Chandigarh-New Morinda-Sahnewal, Sirhind-Daulatpur Chowk, Rajpura-Bathinda-Shri Ganganagar and Ludhiana-Dhuri-Jakhal rail sections

Indian Railways (IR) has sanctioned installation of Kavach on Ambala Cantonment-Ludhiana, Kalka-Chandigarh-New Morinda-Sahnewal, Sirhind-Daulatpur Chowk, Rajpura-Bathinda-Shri Ganganagar and Ludhiana-Dhuri-Jakhal Rail sections under the Ambala railway division at a sanctioned cost of Rs 2.01 billion on June 15, 2026.

It has been approved under the umbrella programme for the provision of Kavach with LTE-based communication backbone on balance routes of IR.

The project involves deployment of Kavach on 811 km long rail sections covering Ambala Cantonment-Ludhiana, Kalka-Chandigarh-New Morinda-Sahnewal, Sirhind-Daulatpur Chowk, Rajpura-Bathinda-Shri Ganganagar and Ludhiana-Dhuri-Jakhal rail sections of Ambala division under the Northern Railway (NR) zone at a cost of Rs 2.01 billion. The corridor handles both freight and passenger traffic, also providing connectivity to the states of Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
