OpenAI has announced a strategic partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at the India AI Impact Summit, 2026. As part of the agreement, OpenAI will utilise Tata Group’s data centre business, starting with 100 megawatts (MW) of capacity.
According to the official statement, in the initial phase, TCS will develop artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure with 100 MW capacity, with the option to scale this up to one gigawatt. The infrastructure will support next generation AI workloads and aim to position India as a global AI hub. The facility will include purpose built, liquid cooled data centres with high rack density and connectivity to major cloud regions.
The chairman, Tata Sons, described the partnership as a deep collaboration that marks a significant milestone in India’s ambition to become a global AI leader.
Key elements of the TCS and OpenAI partnership include enabling Tata Group employees with enterprise ChatGPT access. Several thousand employees will gain access to the platform to enhance innovation and productivity. TCS will also use OpenAI’s Codex to improve software engineering outcomes.
Further, the two companies will work together to develop industry specific agentic AI solutions by combining OpenAI’s advanced models with TCS’s industry expertise and AI capabilities. They will also undertake joint go to market initiatives to help Indian and global enterprises adopt AI solutions suited to their business needs.
On the social impact front, the OpenAI Foundation and TCS will collaborate to provide AI training and resources to Indian youth. The partnership aims to develop technology toolkits for non-governmental organisations and launch initiatives focused on young people, with the goal of improving the livelihoods of at least one million youth across the country.
