Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways targets completion of 150 maritime projects by September 2025

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has set an ambitious target to complete 150 key maritime projects by September 2025. The announcement was made during the two-day ‘Chintan Shivir 2025’ held in Srinagar, where projects worth Rs 2 trillion were reviewed by the MoPSW and new initiatives outlined which focused on port infrastructure development, shipbuilding, and green shipping.

The Bharat Container Shipping Line will be established under the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) to strengthen India’s maritime trade and reduce reliance on foreign carriers. In a move towards sustainable port operations, all major ports will issue tenders for at least one green tug within the next three months to promote eco-friendly vessel movement. Additionally, the harbour craft green transition programme will be launched to accelerate the adoption of clean energy solutions across Indian ports, supporting India’s commitment to green shipping and environmental sustainability.
