Delhi airport introduces Unified Total Airside Management

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has launched the Unified Total Airside Management (UTAM) for safer, efficient, and smoother airside operations. The system was developed in-house with help from WAISL.

The UTAM uses technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), internet of things (IoT), and radar systems, and continuously collects data to monitor operations in real time, identifies issues or delays, and trigger alerts for problems before they occur. It is capable of tracking all airside vehicles including baggage carts, fuel trucks, and maintenance vehicles in real time, and a centralised control room has been established to monitor the activities.

It provides a real-time view of aircraft movements that are within a radius of 10, 40, and 70 miles, among other features. Further, it would also improve collaborative decision making and the efficiency of the airport operations control center (APOC) by tracking the runway occupancy, taxiing time, and taxiway allocation.
