Ravi K. Singh is currently heading the strategy vertical at the Indian Gas Exchange (IGX). He has more than a decade of extensive experience in strategy and consulting, primarily within the energy sector. His expertise spans diverse segments, including power, coal, oil and gas, and renewables.
Prior to his role at IGX, he served as associate director at CRISIL Limited. Before CRISIL, he held key positions at Indian Energy Exchange Limited and PwC India. In 2014, he embarked on his professional journey with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited as a corporate strategy and planning officer.
The most exciting part of his current role at IGX is the o portunity to be a builder. He gets to design strategies and see them come to life, which is incredibly fulfilling according to him. The freedom to innovate and the satisfaction of watching these plans turn into reality sets this role apart from any of his previous roles.
According to Singh, to promote the trading of compressed biogas (CBG) and biomethane, IGX can create a dedicated green market segment specifically for CBG trading. This would allow for better price discovery, increase liquidity and attract a broader range of participants, ultimately contributing to the growth of the green gas sector. “We have already proposed the idea of CBG certificates scheme, similar to the renewable energy certificates in the power sector, to policymakers. This concept has been well received and we expect to see progress on this front soon. These certificates could be traded independently or bundled with gas, enabling the creation of a green gas market,” he says.
On his management style, Singh shares that he believes in empowering his team, providing clear guidance and encouraging open communication. “I focus on setting clear goals, offering the resources needed and trusting my team to deliver,” he says.
“In my spare time, I love being with my family. Most of my time goes in playing with my daughter, going on family outings and taking vacations. I also enjoy simple recreational activities that help us bond and relax together,” he adds.
On the professional front, Singh’s key aim is to introduce new products and expand IGX’s reach. He is also keen to explore emerging sectors such as hydrogen trading, which can play a crucial role in the future energy landscape.
Singh holds a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering from HBTI Kanpur and an MBA from IIM Calcutta.
