Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL) – Gulermak joint venture (JV) has begun preparing the first batch of tunnel ring segments for line 2 of the Kanpur metro project.
The tunnel segments will be utilised for constructing twin tunnels in the 4.08 km underground section between Rawatpur and Double Pullia on corridor 2. The KPIL-Gulermak JV is responsible for this section under package KNPCC-11. This segment will feature a twin tunnel along with three underground stations including Rawatpur, Kakadeo, and Double Pullia. To facilitate the construction of these twin tunnels, KPIL-Gulermak JV will employ two tunnel boring machines (TBMs), designated S-1408A and S-1409A, which are expected to be deployed by 2025.
The metro line spans 8.38 km from Agriculture University to Barra 8 and will have eight stations. Construction of the underground section officially began in April 2024, with recent progress marked by the start of mid-slab casting at Rawatpur station. This station will serve as an interchange between corridor-1 and corridor-2.
