Construction work on the Sonarpur water treatment plant (WTP) and intake Jetty at Bhoot Ghat has been completed under the Rajpur-Sonarpur Municipality Comprehensive Water Supply Scheme in West Bengal.
Currently, an 18 km long pipeline is being laid under phase two for carrying raw water from Bhoot Ghat in Garden Reach to Sonarpur WTP. The project is likely to be commissioned by December 2024.
The project is being implemented in two phases. In the first phase, it included construction of a 124 million litres per day WTP, elevated service reservoirs and a distribution network at an estimated cost of Rs 2.27 billion. In the second phase, it includes laying of 18 km pipeline to carry raw water and the construction of 40 million gallon per day intake jetty at Bhoot Ghat and a few more elevated service stations at an estimated cost of Rs 3.49 billion. The water from the project will be supplied across 35 wards of the Rajpur-Sonarpur Municipality.
