The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has spent around Rs 545 billion on highway construction in April 2024, which is 20 per cent of its allocated capex for the year.
In order to avoid infrastructure development from being hampered by excessive backlogs during year-end, MoRTH has been a frontrunner in early execution of the capex. Despite slow project awarding in the second half of 2023, the ministry has continued its focus on project execution, with the construction of 483 km during the month, ahead of general elections, compared to 523 km during the same month last year.
