Chennai Port Authority launches Port Setu to digitise export container tracking

Chennai Port Authority has launched Port Setu, a digital system designed to track export containers moving between inland warehouses and the port gate. Developed by the Chennai chapter of the National Association of Container Freight Stations (NACFS), the system went live on September 17, 2026.

It uses automatic number plate recognition, optical character recognition and radio frequency identification (RFID) readers, integrated with the customs ICEGATE platform, to monitor trailer movement and transit times. Port Setu forms the first phase of an intelligent vehicle monitoring system under the government’s One Nation One Port Process initiative. The system is expected to provide real-time visibility of trailer arrivals, improve truck utilisation and reduce turnaround times.
