The new Ayodhya airport, named Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, was inaugurated on December 30, 2023. The first phase of the airport has a passenger handling capacity of 1 million passengers per annum (mppa) and the second phase will cater to 6 mppa. Phase 1 was built at a cost of around Rs 14.5 billion. The terminal building would have an area of 6,500 square metres and is also equipped with sustainability features including LED lighting, insulated roofing system, rainwater harvesting and solar power plant.
