NHAI proposes construction of Chenani Nashri Tunnel Project in Jammu & Kashmir

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed construction of the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Tunnel (Chenani Nashri Tunnel) Two Lane New Tube Project (NH-44) on June 9, 2026. The project involves the development, operation and maintenance (O&M) of the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Tunnel (Chenani Nashri Tunnel) two lane new tube, as well as the O&M of the existing Chenani Nashri tunnel, and the existing Udhampur-Ramban section (km 67 to km 89 and km 130 to km 151) and Ramban Marog section (from km 151 to km 156.9) of NH-44 on a DBFOT (toll) basis in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir at an estimated cost of Rs 25,157.2 million under the NH(O) scheme. The total length is 9.358 km (tunnel: 8.826 km and approaches: 0.532 km).
