On June 26, 2026, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways inaugurated Goa’s new Captain of Ports Terminal Building in Panaji. With an investment of Rs 488.7 million, the waterfront facility is designed to strengthen maritime administration, improve vessel monitoring and navigation, and support the state’s vision of sustainable maritime development. The G+3 building, developed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, spans more than 4,405 square metres, replacing the existing Captain of Ports office. Designed to resemble a ship moored along the riverfront, the building overlooks the Mandovi River and is intended to function as a modern administrative centre while showcasing Goa’s rich maritime legacy.
The Minister also announced that the proposed Goa Water Metro has been accorded Phase-I implementation priority, aimed at providing sustainable urban mobility and boosting tourism.
