The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved an investment of Rs 260.7 billion for the construction of the 1,720 MW Kamala hydro electric project in Kamle, Kra Daadi and Kurung Kumey districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
The project, with an installed capacity of 8×210 MW and 1×40 MW, is expected to generate 6,870 million units of electricity and is scheduled for completion in 96 months. It will be implemented through a joint venture between NHPC Limited and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The Government of India will provide Rs 47.44 billion as budgetary support for the flood moderation component, Rs 13.4 billion for enabling infrastructure including roads, bridges and associated transmission systems, and Rs 7.5 billion as central financial assistance towards the state’s equity share. The state will receive 12 per cent free power and an additional 1 per cent for the local area development fund. The project is also expected to support peak demand management, national grid balancing and flood moderation in the Brahmaputra valley, while improving regional infrastructure.
