A Norwegian company, Kongsberg Maritime, has secured a major contract to supply 18 advanced Kamewa waterjet propulsion systems for the Indian Navy’s Next Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) programme. These systems will power six high-speed missile vessels being awarded in collaboration with Cochin Shipyard Limited, enhancing their speed, agility, and manoeuvrability for modern naval operations.
The deal marks Kongsberg’s largest-ever waterjet order and highlights growing defence collaboration between India and global technology partners. The NGMVs, expected to begin delivery from 2027, will play a crucial role in India’s maritime defence strategy, supporting offensive and defensive operations at sea.
