Road construction dips 12 per cent y-o-y during 7M FY2026

According to ICRA, the Indian road construction industry had a 12 per cent year-over-year decrease in execution during the first seven months of 2025-26. Between April and October 2025, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) completed 3,468 km of roads, compared with 3,920 km during the same period the previous year. ICRA anticipates that road execution will fall to 9,000–9,500 km for the entire year. This is slightly lower than the 10,660 km completed in 2024-25, which was a 14 per cent decrease from the 12,349 km completed in 2023-24.

ICRA projects that road awards in 2025-26 would be between 8,500 and 9,000 km, which is marginally more than the projected 7,500 to 8,000 km in 2024-25. In order to reduce the level of competition and help the industry, a significant increase is thought to be essential. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) saw a 16 per cent decrease in execution, from 6,644 km in 2023-24 to 5,614 km in 2024-25.
