According to the Union Minister for Communications, in a written response to Parliament of India, Maharashtra is steadily moving towards achieving 100 per cent 4G coverage. He noted that around 1,64,000 4G base transceiver stations (BTS) and nearly 40,000 5G BTS have been deployed, significantly improving network connectivity and user experience across both rural and urban parts of the state.
The minister also highlighted focused network expansion efforts in the Konkan region. The expanded 4G and 5G footprint is expected to ensure that residents in the region have access to digital opportunities comparable to those available elsewhere in the country. According to the data shared, Palghar district has seen the installation of over 5,463 towers along with 1,640 5G BTS, while Thane has added more than 6,710 4G BTS and 1,989 5G BTS.
Similarly, Raigad has been equipped with 2,940 4G BTS and 791 5G BTS. In Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri, 975 and 2,292 4G BTS respectively have been installed, alongside 256 and 465 5G BTS.
