V.O. Chidambaranar Port achieves 30 mt cargo handling during FY 2025-26

V.O. Chidambaranar Port at Tuticorin has reached a major operational milestone by handling 30 million tonnes (mt) of cargo during FY 2025-26, achieving this target one week earlier than in the previous year. This milestone, reached on December 14, 2025, underlines both enhanced operational efficiency and its significant role as a key gateway on India’s east coast.

The performance reflects significant increase in several commodity segments year-on-year, timber log traffic rose by about 176 per cent, pulses more than doubled, and construction material handling increased nearly 142 per cent.

Operational improvements, such as faster unloading, for example, 38,319 tonnes of coal discharged in 24 hours at the North Cargo Berth (NCB)-II using dual harbour cranes, demonstrate that infrastructure and process upgrades are yielding results.
