Tunnel boring machine (TBM) S-840C has achieved the first breakthrough at Kakadeo station for package KNPCC-11 under the Kanpur Metro Rail Phase I Project. It was commissioned at Rawatpur station in March 2025 and travelled for 750 metres till Kakadeo station.
Package KNPCC-11 involves design and construction of a twin tunnel by shield TBM, tunnel by cut and cover, underground ramp at Agriculture Depot for main line and depot connections and three underground metro stations viz. Rawatpur, Kakadeo and Double Pullia on Corridor-2. The package was awarded to a joint venture of Kalpataru Projects International Limited and Gülermak Ağır Sanayi İnşaat ve Taahhüt A.Ş in December 2023.
The Kanpur Metro Project involves development of a 33 km long metro rail system in Uttar Pradesh at an investment of Rs 110.76 billion.
