Oil India Limited has reported the occurrence of natural gas at second exploratory well Vijayapuram-2 in the Andaman Shallow Offshore Block AN-OSHP-2018/1, awarded under the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP-II). The move marks the first hydrocarbon occurrence in the ongoing exploration at Andaman.
The initial production testing of the well confirmed natural gas presence with intermittent flaring. Gas samples indicated 87 per cent methane.
Moreover, further studies are underway to understand its genesis and potential. The size of the gas pool and commercial viability are expected to be confirmed in the next few months.
