National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited achieves breakthrough of 4.88 km long tunnel between Shilphata-Ghansoli rail section in Maharashtra 

National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) achieved the breakthrough of a 4.88 km long tunnel between Shilphata-Ghansoli section in connection with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (HSR) Corridor Project.

The tunnel, excavated using the New Austrian Tunnel Method (NATM) method, is part of a 21 km underground stretch from Banda-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Shilphata, which also includes 7 km under Thane Creek. The remaining 16 km will be executed with Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs).

Besides, 321 km of viaducts, 398 km of piers, 17 river bridges, nine steel bridges, and over four lakh noise barriers across 206 km have been completed. Track bed works cover 206 km, and more than 2,000 overhead equipment (OHE) masts are installed along 48 km of viaduct.

The project involves development of the 508.17 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR corridor in Maharashtra and Gujarat with an investment of Rs 1,080 billion.
