India reaffirms AI mission with plans for 38,000 GPUs and 600 data labs

India has reiterated its commitment to building a strong and inclusive artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem, with plans to deploy 38,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) at affordable rates and set up 600 data labs across the country, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the IndiaAI Mission, reportedly said.

He outlined key strategic initiatives, including making large-scale GPU resources accessible to boost AI research and applications, and establishing data labs to strengthen the innovation pipeline. He also stressed the need for responsible and ethical AI frameworks, measures to counter misinformation, and efforts to embed an AI-first culture within organisations.

He further noted that the event serves as a precursor to the India-AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled for February 2025, and extended an invitation to panellists and delegates to participate.

He called for a strategic AI roadmap centred on solutions, data frameworks, trust, security, and talent development, urging a move from enthusiasm around AI to concrete action.
