Leadership in renewable energy is about envisioning a sustainable future and turning it into reality. Prashant Mathur, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Saatvik Green Energy Limited, exemplifies this through his passion for sustainability and excellence in sales and marketing. Since joining Saatvik in April 2021, when its production capacity was 285 MW per annum, the company has grown to 3.8 GW per annum by FY 2024-25. Furthering its vision, Saatvik plans to establish an integrated cell and module manufacturing facility in Odisha, with capacities of 2.4 GW for solar cells and 4 GW for solar modules annually.
According to Mathur, India’s power sector showed remarkable resilience and progress in 2024-25, driven by strong policies, technological advancements and a focus on renewable energy. The government’s push for 500 GW of non-fossil-fuel capacity by 2030 has accelerated solar, wind and hybrid projects, with a specific target of 290 GW for solar. Initiatives like the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers, the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme and PM Surya Ghar Yojana have propelled the industry to new heights.
The Indian power sector faces challenges in ensuring reliable, affordable and sustainable energy. Financial stress in discoms due to low dues recovery, subsidised tariffs and inadequate investment in infrastructure further compound issues. India’s solar sector, despite significant progress, relies heavily on Chinese imports for key materials such as solar wafers and cells, threatening energy security and self-reliance goals.
India’s power sector has a highly positive outlook, driven by economic growth, urbanisation, rising energy demand and renewable-focused policies. Power demand is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7-8 per cent annually, supported by industrial expansion, household electrification and robust energy infrastructure development. Programmes like PM-KUSUM and rooftop solar schemes, along with policies such as the PLI scheme, renewable energy auctions and green energy corridors, boost private sector participation.
The most memorable moment in Mathur’s journey with Saatvik Green Energy was witnessing the company’s remarkable 10× growth in revenue, profits, production capacity and employment. His management style is adaptive, collaborative and results-driven, focusing on empowerment, innovation and clear communication. He prioritises setting achievable goals, fostering accountability and mentoring team members to ensure their growth alongside the company.
