PHED Rajasthan plans 24X7 water supply in Jaipur, Udaipur and Nawalgarh with Denmark’s help

The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) in Rajasthan is planning for continuous water supply in Jaipur, Udaipur and Nawalgarh with the aid from Denmark. Reportedly, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Rajasthan government and the administration of Aarhus in Denmark to construct a 24X7 water supply infrastructure in the three cities in 2023. Under this initiative, six areas were recognised in the three cities as district metered areas (DMA). The outdated water supply lines were replaced in DMAs to reduce leakages and non-revenue water (NRW). Moreover, it was ensured that the commercial and residential units in DMAs were equipped with advanced water meters to eliminate water theft. An initial assessment in the Bani Park area has highlighted that NRW reduction from 52 per cent to 23 per cent owing to these measures.

Additionally, the PHED has commenced 24X7 water on a pilot basis in Bani Park area and Bajaj Nagar Enclave in Jaipur with around 2,200 residents. Similar pilot projects are expected in one area in Udaipur and three areas in Nawalgarh. The PHED also aims to ensure continuous water supply by discouraging hoarding by the residents.
