Aurangabad airport expansion approved

The state government has approved the expansion of the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad) airports managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Rs 5.78 billion has been allocated for the expansion and acquisition of 147 hectares of land, targeted towards catering to the increasing footfall of tourists and enhancing the infrastructure. The existing runway is to be extended from 2,385 meters to 3,660 meters, and construction of a parallel taxiway. Another airport expansion is underway in Gondia district, Vidarbha, where Rs 150 million was sanctioned to acquire 15 hectares and diversion of two state highways. The resolution for both airport expansions were issued by the state government on November 23, 2023.
