Major Indian ports registers 6.94 per cent growth rate in traffic movement during 2021-22 over 2020-21

All the major Indian ports under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Water­ways (MoPSW) have registered a 6.94 per cent growth rate in traffic movement during 2021-22 over 2020-21. These ports reported 719.38 million tonnes (mt) of traffic movement during 2021-22 as compared to 672.68 mt during 2020-21. Five major ports of the country, wh­ich recorded their highest ever traffic during the year are Kamarajar port, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Deendayal port, Mumbai port and Co­chin port. The Inland Waterways Authority of India has transported a total of 105 mt of cargo through national waterways, registering an im­pressive year-on-year growth of 25.61 per cent. Further, the average turnaround time for container vessels at major ports has improved from 43.44 hours in 2014 to 26.58 hours in 2021.
