NRCD approves revised cost of Nag river pollution abatement project

The National River Conservation Directorate has approved the revised cost of Rs 24.34 billion for the Nag river pollution abatement project. Of the total cost, about 65 per cent of the funds will be provided by the central government, 25 per cent will be provided by the state government and the remaining 15 per cent will be contributed by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The project involves rejuvenation of the Nag and Pili rivers by laying 1,362.5 km of sewage lines in the north and central sewage zones; and construction of three new sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a combined capacity of 72 mld at Shankar Nagar, Mor Bhavan bus stand and Martin Nagar. Three existing STPs at Mokshadham, Mankapur and NIT will be incorporated into the project and storm water will be filtered before being discharged into the rivers. Nagpur Environmental Services Limited, a fully owned SPV of NMC, has been appointed for project implementation. The implementation period is four years.
