Central government approves construction of six-lane highway connecting west Uttar Pradesh to Delhi

The central government has approved the construction of the six-lane, 155 km NH 709-B connecting west Uttar Pradesh to Delhi. The highway connecting Baghpat, Shyamli, Saharanpur, Geeta Colony and Khajuri Khas is estimated to cost Rs 44.05 billion. The foundation stone for the project was laid on January 26, 2019 and the highway is expected to be completed within 20 months from the commencement of construction. The project stretch comprises a 19 km elevated corridor, of which 14.75 km will lie in Delhi. The project will be undertaken in four packages. The first package will involve the construction of the 14.75 km Akshardham-Geeta Colony-Shastri Park-Khajuri Khas-Delhi/Uttar Pradesh border stretch at an estimated cost of Rs 11 billion. The second package will entail the construction of the 16.57 km Delhi/Uttar Pradesh border-Mandola-Eastern Peripheral Expressway extension at an estimated cost of Rs 18 billion. The third package involves the construction of a 61.4 km stretch from the Eastern Peripheral Expressway junction to the beginning of the Shamli Bypass at an estimated cost of Rs 7.25 billion. The fourth package involves the construction of 62.7 km Shamli Bypass-Sahranpur Bypass stretch at an estimated cost of Rs 7.8 billion.
