The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) is developing a comprehensive 25-year master plan for airports in the country to keep pace with air traffic growth. The master plan envisages the development of multiple greenfield and brownfield airports, revision and refinement of agreements with airport operators and providing attractive opportunities for operating brownfield airports. According to a study carried out by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation, India’s airport system is likely to exceed its structural capacity by March 2022 and investment of up to $45 billion is required to create additional handling capacity of 500 million-600 million passenger per year by 2030.
