Indian Railways (IR) has planned to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras having latest specifications along with Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification (STQC) in all of its 74,000 coaches and 15,000 locomotives to enhance passenger safety.
Moreover, each railway coach will be equipped with four dome type CCTV cameras, two in each entrance way. Each locomotive will be fitted with six CCTV cameras which includes one camera each at the front, rear and on both sides of the locomotive. Additionally, each cab (front and rear) of a locomotive will be fitted with one dome CCTV camera and two desk mounted microphones. Successful trials of these cameras have already been conducted in the loco engines and coaches of the Northern Railway (NR) zone.
