Indian Railways to achieve 100 per cent electrification of its networks during FY 2025-26

Indian Railways (IR) aims to achieve 100 per cent electrification of its networks during the financial year (FY) 2025-26. In tune with this vision, IR has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) of 170 megawatts (MW) with the Government of Madhya Pradesh. The PPA involves key stakeholders such as, West Central Railway (WCR) and Waree Forever Energies Private Limited. It also marks India’s lowest solar power procurement cost at Rs 2.15/kWh (kilowatt hours).

This partnership complements the existing solar power supply from Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Limited (RUMSL). By 2030, IR’s traction power requirement is projected to reach 10,000 MW. To meet this demand, IR has secured 4,260 MW of installed solar capacity and 3,427 MW of installed wind capacity as of now.
