Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority secures loan worth Rs 73.26 billion for Orange Gate-Marine Drive underground road tunnel in Maharashtra

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has secured a loan of Rs 73.26 billion from the Union Bank of India for the implementation of the Orange Gate-Marine Drive Underground Road Tunnel Project.

The project involves the construction of a 6.51 km twin-tube underground tunnel, with each tunnel accommodating 2+2 traffic lanes, 1+1 emergency lanes, pedestrian walkways, underground road tunnel connectivity including approaches on design-build (DB) basis on Orange Gate at Eastern Freeway linking Mankhurd to Chembur Junction and the coastal road at Marine Drive. The left hand side tunnel for south bound traffic is 4.5 km while that of the right hand side tunnel is 2 km. The total length of alignment is 9.5 km. Tunnel’s depth will be approximately 40 m from ground level. The total cost of the tunnel project is estimated at Rs 91,580 million.
