Avantel has won a Rs 4.6 billion contract from Zetwerk, covering the supply and annual maintenance contract (AMC) of satellite-enabled real-time train information system (RTIS) devices for the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).
Avantel provides solutions for the defence and communications sectors, including satellite communications (satcom). RTIS is an Indian Railways project developed in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to automatically track train locations, speeds, and arrival and departure times using satellite technology.
CRIS, which operates under the Ministry of Railways, is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining critical information systems for Indian Railways.
Further, the contract forms part of Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to strengthen real-time tracking and communication capabilities across its locomotive fleet.
