Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata has signed a licence agreement with East Horizon Private Limited to set up a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at the Haldia Dock Complex, with an investment of around Rs 2.6 billion. The project aims to strengthen liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure in eastern India and enhance the port’s capacity to handle LNG cargo.
An FSRU is a specialised facility that receives LNG from ships, stores it in liquid form, and converts it back into natural gas for distribution through pipelines. The proposed unit will enable the import, storage and regasification of LNG, supporting the expansion of India’s natural gas supply network.
