IR achieves 99.4 per cent electrification till January 2026

IR has achieved the electrification of 99.4 per cent of its broad gauge network, as of January 31, 2026, covering 30 states and union territories. This represents the electrification of 69,744 route km (rkm) out of the total 70,117 rkm of IR’s network. In 2025-26 (till January 2026), a total of 1,043 rkm has been electrified, which is an increase of 2.75 per cent over the 1,015 rkm targeted for the same year. A total of 14 out of 18 zones have already achieved full electrification.
