Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) has achieved a significant operational milestone by surpassing its entire previous fiscal year’s cargo throughput with a month still remaining in FY 2025-26. Between April to February FY 2025-26, the port handled 64.03 million tonnes (mt) of cargo, exceeding the 63.95 mt handled during FY 2024-25.
The growth reflects strong performance across both of the port’s dock systems. The Kolkata Dock System handled 17.03 mt, recording a 13.48 per cent increase year-on-year, while the Haldia Dock Complex processed 46.99 mt, registering 10.06 per cent growth. Overall cargo traffic at the port grew 10.95 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.
Container traffic also reached a record level, with 874,360 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) handled during the 11-month period, surpassing the previous record of 844,762 TEUs achieved in FY 2019-20.
