Chennai Port has crossed the 50 million tonnes (mt) cargo throughput mark on February 12, 2026, in FY 2025-26, achieving the milestone 18 days earlier than in the previous fiscal. The total 50 mt throughput comprised 32.27 mt of containers, 13 mt of crude, 0.36 mt of fertiliser and 4.36 mt of other cargo.
Container traffic showed notable progress, reaching 1.67 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) by February 11, 2026, surpassing last year’s 1.56 million TEUs and recording a 7.05 per cent increase. This accomplishment highlights improved operational efficiency, steady growth and strong customer confidence.
