Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) has dispatched the sixth 3,300 horsepower (hp) AC-AC diesel-electric locomotive to Mozambique on December 15, 2025. The locomotive has been indigenously manufactured and can attain a maximum speed of 100 km per hour (kmph) on cape gauge (1,067 mm) tracks. BLW had earlier exported the first two locomotives in June 2025, followed by the third in September 2025, the fourth in October 2025 and the fifth locomotive on December 12, 2025.
The export is part of a contract awarded by Mozambique’s national railway company, CFM, through RITES Limited. The contract involves the manufacture and supply of ten 3,300 hp AC-AC diesel-electric locomotives.
