The Telangana Vision 2047 document has outlined an environmental and water-focused roadmap aimed at reshaping the state’s ecological landscape. A major component of the vision is the development of a circular water grid for Hyderabad. The plan will be implemented through the construction of a 158 km long water supply pipeline along the Outer Ring Road, development of sewage infrastructure deploying advanced wastewater treatment systems, 100 per cent municipal wastewater treatment and reuse in addition to the setting up of sludge-to-energy facilities. The policies, masterplans and detailed project reports, to execute this initiative are expected to be completed by 2027.
The vision document has also proposed the protection of more than 2,000 lakes in peri-urban areas and the redevelopment of around 100 lakes with wetland buffers, nature-based stormwater drainage treatment and other features. Further, a vison to develop a blue-green network linking rivers, lakes, wetlands and urban forests has been envisioned under the plan.
