Tunnel boring machine (TBM) S64B achieved its breakthrough of a 1.55 km long tunnel at Vasant Kunj station for package DC-08 under the Delhi Metro Project Phase IV on June 25, 2025. It was commissioned at Kishangarh station.
Package DC-08 was awarded to J Kumar Infraprojects Limited in March 2022. TBM S64B, also known as TBM Shalini, measures 91 metres in length with a cutterhead diameter of 6.61 metres and was deployed to construct the tunnel at an average depth of approximately 22.86 metres (ranging from 15.48 metres to 30.25 metres). The tunnel comprises 1,105 precast concrete rings, each with an internal diameter of 5.8 metres, forming the structural lining of the tunnel.
Delhi Metro Project Phase IV involves development of a 112.4 km long metro rail network comprising six corridors with an investment of Rs 468 billion. The three corridors to be developed on a priority basis are Maujpur-Mukundpur (12.31 km), Janakpuri West-RK Ashram (29.26 km) and Aerocity-Tughlakabad (23.62 km).
