Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) of Indian Railways (IR) exported two 3,300 horsepower (hp) cape gauge diesel-electric locomotives to Mozambique in June 2025. These locomotives can attain a maximum speed of 100 km per hour (kmph) on cape gauge (1,067 mm) tracks.
The export is part of a contract awarded by Mozambique’s national railway company, CFM, through RITES Limited. The contract involves the manufacture and supply of ten units of 12-cylinder 3,300 hp AC-AC diesel-electric locomotives. The remaining eight locomotives are scheduled to be delivered by December 2025.
