Tidal Wave deploys private 5G network for Coal India

Indian start-up Tidal Wave has reportedly deployed a private 5G network at Coal India sites to enhance connectivity, enable remote operations, and facilitate real-time data analytics. The company confirmed it is in active talks with other public sector enterprises across mining, manufacturing, and logistics sectors for similar rollouts.

The 5G-powered infrastructure includes vehicle tracking systems, fuel management tools, and environmental sensors deployed at Coal India facilities in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Amlohri, Dhanbad, and Ranchi. The network operates on 3500 MHz spectrum allocated by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), using a core from Druid Software, with Tidal Wave supplying the radio equipment.

In addition, the private 5G network was built using the 3500 MHz spectrum band allocated by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Tidal Wave supplied the radio equipment, while the network core was provided by Ireland-based Druid Software.

Tidal Wave stated that its focus remains on sectors where 5G can drive significant efficiency and safety improvements. However, the company noted that telecom carriers face challenges in scaling enterprise 5G due to the complexities of custom solutions and ambiguity around spectrum availability and pricing models.
