In a bid to rightsize the railways, the Railways Board has ordered the closing of Indian Railway Station Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC). IRSDC was set up for the redevelopment of railway stations across the country. On September 7, 2021, the Ministry of Railways (MoR) had shut down the Indian Railways Organisation for Alternative Fuel. The decision to shut down IRSDC has been taken on the recommendation of the Finance Ministry to rationalise government bodies either by closing them down or merging multiple organisations under different ministries. The stations managed by IRSDC will now be handed over to the respective zonal railways, and the corporation will pass on all project-related documents to them for further development. Among several other projects, the IRSDC, which was set up in March 2012, was involved in the bidding process for the redevelopment of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai.
