The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved five railway projects worth around Rs 100.21 billion, generating additional freight traffic of 47 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA).
The projects will cover 540 km covering the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana. The projects are:
- Arakkonam-Renigunta Third and Fourth Rail Line Project involves construction of 77 km long third and fourth railway line between Arakkonam and Renigunta in the states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs 19.36 billion.
- Whitefield-Bangarpet Third/Fourth Railway Line Project involves construction of 47 km long third and fourth railway line between Whitefield and Bangarpet in the state of Karnataka.
- Hosur-Omalur Railway Line Doubling Project involves doubling of 147 km long railway line between Hosur and Omalur in the state of Tamil Nadu.
- Salem-Karur-Dindigul Rail Doubling Project involves doubling of the existing 159 km long rail line between Salem and Dindigul in the state of Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of Rs 22.42 billion.
- Secunderabad (Ghatkesar)-Kazipet Fourth Rail Line Project involves construction of 110 km long fourth railway line between Secunderabad (Ghatkesar) and Kazipet in the state of Telangana at an estimated cost of Rs 24.19 billion.
