India’s efforts to build a nationwide electric mobility ecosystem have received a significant technology upgrade. National Highways for Electric Vehicles (NHEV), an electric-highway pilot programme, has partnered with fleet safety technology company Netradyne to deploy artificial intelligence (AI)-powered monitoring and safety solutions across the country’s emerging electronic highway network.
This initiative seeks to address one of the most pressing challenges in long-haul electric transportation – ensuring operational reliability and safety for commercial fleets. Rather than focusing solely on charging infrastructure, the initiative introduces an AI-enabled intelligence layer that enhances monitoring, safety and operational efficiency. By integrating Netradyne’s AI-driven platform into NHEV’s electronic highway ecosystem, the collaboration aims to make long-distance electric mobility more connected, dependable and commercially viable across India’s key EV corridors.
Additionally, it also reflects the growing role of AI in shaping India’s future mobility infrastructure. By enabling the early detection of driver fatigue, unsafe driving behaviour and potential vehicle issues, the technology can help reduce road safety risks while improving the reliability of long-haul electric vehicle (EV) operations.
Digital deployments and solutions
NHEV is pursuing a broader vision of transforming India’s highways into electronic corridors capable of supporting connected and reliable electric mobility at scale. Expansion has been planned across 26 highway corridors by 2027 as part of this strategy. To this end, the integrated approach combines charging infrastructure, energy management, digital systems, financing support and operational services into a unified long-distance EV ecosystem for India.
Under the agreement, Netradyne’s AI-driven solutions will be deployed in phases across commercial EVs operating on NHEV-supported corridors. The integration will enable real-time fleet visibility, predictive risk detection, driver behaviour insights and operational monitoring for commercial EVs travelling across India’s e-highways.
This collaboration has been built on prior pilot learnings and marks the transition towards a more integrated and technology-enabled highway ecosystem that integrates road infrastructure with intelligent fleet management.
Within the framework, the AI platform will add an additional layer of operational intelligence through continuous monitoring of driver behaviour, vehicle health and corridor-level performance. These capabilities are expected to improve situational awareness for fleet operators while helping reduce operational risks associated with long-distance freight movement.
NHEV has already conducted technology trial runs on highway corridors such as Delhi-Agra, Delhi-Jaipur and Chennai-Trichy. These pilot projects have demonstrated the feasibility of an integrated electronic highway model that combines charging infrastructure, energy management, financing mechanisms and digital services. The addition of AI-powered safety and monitoring capabilities is expected to further strengthen confidence among logistics companies and freight operators considering a transition to electric mobility.
According to NHEV, recent global disruptions, including supply chain breakdowns and oil price shocks, have highlighted the need for resilient transport infrastructure.
The e-highway initiative is therefore being positioned not merely as a charging network but as a preparedness-driven economic lifeline capable of ensuring the uninterrupted movement of essential goods during periods of disruption.

India’s e-highway vision extends beyond installing charging stations. It seeks to build a connected and trusted mobility ecosystem that inspires confidence among commercial EV operators, logistics companies and freight transport stakeholders.
The AI vision platform has already analysed more than 1.3 trillion minutes of driving data and over 27 billion miles of driving globally. Leveraging this experience within India’s electronic highway network is expected to improve fleet uptime, enhance asset utilisation and strengthen operational reliability.
For fleet operators and financial institutions, the partnership aims to create a stronger trust framework. Enhanced operational visibility, safer journeys, improved fleet uptime and greater asset reliability can help lower operational uncertainties associated with long-distance electric transportation. These factors are expected to improve the commercial attractiveness of EV fleets while supporting financing decisions for operators looking to expand their EV portfolios. Beyond operational benefits, the deployment is expected to generate valuable real-world insights that can contribute to future policy development. According to NHEV, implementation data from the initiative will support the formulation of practical and scalable policy recommendations for the Group of Transport Experts. These recommendations could contribute to broader national objectives related to connected mobility, including proposals for establishing an apex transport authority and promoting greater convergence between transport, telecom and digital infrastructure.
