Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) and Swan Defence and Heavy Industries (SDHI) have secured in-principle approval from the National Shipbuilding Mission for expanding their shipbuilding facilities under the government’s Shipbuilding Development Scheme (SbDS).
CSL plans to establish a Rs 40 billion block fabrication facility in Kochi through a joint venture with South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries on land leased from Cochin Port Authority, while SDHI will expand its Pipavav yard using 75 acres of adjoining land. The Centre has earmarked Rs 82.61 billion for brownfield shipyard expansion, offering capital assistance of up to 25 per cent of approved project costs, capped at Rs 15 billion per shipyard.
