Expert Committee to submit recommendation on proposal for Kerala High Speed Rail Corridor Project

An expert committee appointed by the Kerala Government is expected to submit its recommendation on the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation proposal to set up the Kerala high speed rail (HSR) corridor project, by June 30, 2026. The proposed HSR line will support a maximum speed of 200 kmph and will have 14 stations in the first phase, later expanding to 22 stations. Travel time from Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur will be reduced to 3 hours and 15 minutes, while the Thiruvananthapuram-Kochi journey will take 1 hour and 20 minutes. The proposed corridor will stretch over 473.2 km, covering 23 stations at an average spacing of 21.5 km. The corridor will directly connect three of Kerala’s four major airports, with Kannur airport lying 10 km from the Mundayad terminal. The corridor will be fully elevated, except for a 6.5 km long tunnel stretch in Thiruvananthapuram city. Construction is expected to be completed within five years.
